10/27/20 – COVID_19 at Durango Fire Rescue

You might have heard that Durango Fire Rescue has had a COVID outbreak.  Here is us being transparent with that.  It is correct that two DFPD members tested positive for COVID-19 last week.  That immediately affected four others by exposure. One of those four tested, also tested positive.  That group of five was quarantined and not back at work since then.  We decided to take further action and test multiple others and send others home from work to be safe and proactive in not letting anything get larger here at DFPD.  Because of the extra people we chose to send home, some staffing issues have been a struggle.  However, we have had many our staff work overtime and some of our administration staff covering shifts.  This has not created any issue or delays in emergency response.  We are still fully operational.  The employees at DFPD are very professional and dedicated and have stepped up tremendously covering each other’s shifts.  Also, please know there has been no compromise to the public we serve.  Our responders wear full PPE while interacting or providing medical care to a patient. We are looking forward to start bringing employees back as soon as we can safely, after a second round of testing this week.
